A suspenseful and well-written psychological/noir thriller written in 1947 by John Franklin. The style, pacing, and tense, imaginative plot are reminiscent of the 1948 film "Sorry, Wrong Number" with Barbara Stanwyck in that it leaves you anxiously waiting for the resolution. The ending was a bit rushed considering that in a 202 page book, the previous 198 pages were leading up to the grande reveal and the final explanation ending up just being a rushed soliloquy by the book's villain. It's a plot device that, 62 years after the book's publication, seems cliche considering the number of stories that have emulated this format but at the time I'm sure it was relatively original.
