Laugh out loud funny this book was endlessly entertaining. Adrianne Ambrose took a genre I couldn't care less about and made me love it by skewering it in her post feminist take. Clever, charming and fun. I want a sequel, no a series of books written by Ambrose.

Haunting yet unfulfilling. The book, like its central narrator, is fatigued by environment snapping to action in quick sudden bursts. If you took out descriptions of dust and soot, the books length would be halved.

Awesome self contained John Constantine graphic novel. Pitch perfect haunted house meets reality television morality tale with a harrowing conclusion. Can't say much more without spoiling the plot.

My only complaint is the cover / marketing. I passed the book for weeks in the shop before I realized it was a Constantine / Hellblazer story. Who do they want to buy this book if not the already built in Hellblazer fan base? Possibly there trying to expand his base by marketing to a wider audience but they nearly missed my sale.

Starting in SF Harbor and cris crossing the Pacific, this book is equal parts philosophy, action and suspense. The first three quarters of the book are pitch perfect madness. And then a woman is brought upon the ship ...and the book turns into a flowery romance. UGH. The Hollywood ending feels tacked on and out of place with the rest of the book. Too bad most of it is very good.

Was I supposed to love this bloated over written classic? Homeboy, Melville, could have benefited from a good editor. Endless chapters ruminating on Hemp, Sails, Whale Jaw bones and "oh did I forget to mention in my previous chapter this other minute detail of whaling that adds NOTHING to the story"...Really dude? Not surprised he died penniless.

The characters are well written, too bas the main ones disappear half way through the book. Not that it stops the narrator from narrating events he could not have seen or witnessed. As if 635 pages weren't enough the ending has to be explained by a post script from the, suddenly living, narrator.

Sadly disappointed...

Beautifully illustrated and well arraigned, the story of johnny cash is fully realized and well transitioned to the page by Kleist. Thinking I was already well versed in all things Johnny I almost passed by this heartfelt well cartooned bio. Glad I gave it a shot, I highly recommend it.
