Wow! Because I'm a dull soul who prefers mundane and prosaic endings that don't challenge my poor tired little mind? LOL! I’m happy with having an ending that challenges all of the previous presuppositions. In fact, I find that sort of ending delightful! However, an eighth of the book is spent painstakingly explaining to you how the surprise ending could be plausible. So it’s not even really the ending anymore, and even with the long drawn out explanation, there are still more questions than answers. Why didn’t the guy from the stars just explain things without the complicated mining process? Isn’t it a bit improbable that the key to understanding would be discovered just in the nick of time? If the pygmies knew all about it, why this great shroud of mystery? And in the end, I do fundamentally disagree with the assertion that all evidence of human civilization except one carefully constructed thing-a-ma-bob could be erased, even with a couple million years to do it. If all the cities break down into undetectable components, the perfect circle shouldn’t be sitting there happily glowing while it waits for the hero. I’m sticking with my previous review. Thanks though.
