This is the second book in the volume that I mentioned earlier in my previous review of Sherlock Holmes. This story is interesting in a way that everytime Sherlock Holmes is facing what he thinks is the answer to the mystery, he encounters another mystery that needs to be investigated further. But luckily, after all of the hard work and waiting, Sherlock Holmes finally captured the criminal who told him the story of what really happened. This book was different from the first because it somewhat gave readers a sense of who Holmes and Dr. Watson are rather than just solving mysteries. In this book, you learn more about their characters. At the end, it is revealed that Watson would get married and therefore leave Holmes. I can't wait to read the next book to see what other mysteries would Holmes have to solve!! ...less

This is a book about the hardships that a Nepalian teenage girl had to go through after being sold to a brothel. It is about how she is confused with whether or not she should believe anymore because everytime she believed in someone, that person betrays her. It is not till the end where this one person who kept his promise and brought her hope. The main part of this book is the time that she learned how to grow and become American while serving in a brothel. She had to do things that she never would've done in order to pay off her endless debt. This book is based on real facts where the author mentions in the back of the book (Author's note) that says research has shown how many young teenage girls have been sold to become prostitutes. It is horrifying to learn about these tortures that young girls had to go through....less

This is the book that I had to read from for homework for my elective, research arts. It is basically a guide of how to conduct effective and efficient research. It also includes many personal stories from a diverse population of college students and contains many famous quotes. It is a good read for those who wants to improve their researching skills and it is helpful when it comes to going online, searching through databases, or writing narratives, autobiographies, etc. This book also helps you understand who you are as a learner through different activities and quizzes. ...less

(I can't find the book but I did not listen to an audio cassette!!) I am currently reading a book that has a collection of novels and stories. The title is Sherlock Holmes The Complete Novels and Stories Volume 1. I finished the first book which is A Study in Scarlet. It is a very interesting story about how Sherlock Holmes went about solving a mystery. The structure of the book is unique in a way that it seems to give you a story that doesn't relate to the case that needs to be solved but as you read on, you would know that it is background information to explain why the person committed this crime. It is fun to read because the author allows you to sort of be in the story, helping with solving this story. It is exciting and you would want to continue to read as the culprit is revealed and the motive behind the case. The book does not always revolve around the case, it also talks about the protagonist and Sherlock Holmes so you can get a sense of how the characters are like in this book. It would be a fast and interesting read for those who are interested in solving mysteries. ...less

Speak is an interesting book about a girl named Melinda who became mute throughout her freshman year in high school. She does not have a disability - she just chooses not to speak. I think that it is a psychological result from something harsh that she experienced from the summer before high school (i don't want to give too much away). Basically, this book is separated into different sections that describes her being mute throughout the entire year. You would find out why she became mute near the end of the book but the writing style of this book is pretty neat in how it sort of has a title for each stage of her freshman year. Hope that you would find this interesting as this sort of relates to us (being in HS)...less

This is a book that I found under the category of psychology. It is a great guide to read through if anyone is experiencing any problems with fitting in or being bullied in school or at home. It offers many solutions and possiblities that one may try to resolve the conflicts. What I like about this best is that it reveals true stories and the strategies that parents and children used to solve their problems. If you are experiencing bullying (at school or w/ siblings at home) or know of someone who is, you should definitely check this book out. ...less

This is a book that talks about a typical high school student (Jeremy Heere) who isn't very popular in school. He's one of those students who are teased and isolated by the popular kids. He soon learns about a technology that can advise a person to say and do things to be cool. This is a supercomputer named "squip". With this squip, Jeremy starts to talk and act the way a "cool" kid would and becomes popular in school. This way, he was able to talk to many of the popular kids especially the one he has a crush on named Christine Caniglia. After the squip messes him up, he realizes that he shouldn't have relied his life on a piece of technology that can deprecate. He went through lots of troubles with the squip. Read more to learn about what he've been through... ...less
