A friend who just had her second child loaned me this book and said that she wished she'd read it before the second was born. There were some reassuring aspects of the book (along the lines of "you're not alone"), but I actually found the book rather stressful. It seemed like there were a lot of messages about how much more difficult it is to have two children and how your marriage is going to take a huge hit -- just not what I needed to hear right now. ]]>

A very sweet, quick read. There were a couple of sub-plots I would've liked the author to explore further, and the ending seemed a little too typical/easy/abrupt. Three stars seems low, though, because I did enjoy the book and am glad I read it, but I'm trying to be conscious about star-inflation. ]]>

I selected "read" because I've read all I plan to read. The idea was somewhat clever -- pregnancy and birth from the perspective of the fetus. The problem was that the idea got old by the second section of the book (not the second chapter, the second section within the first chapter).
Damon bought it at the airport. He thinks the book is hilarious. ]]>
Brings up some really interesting social science research on children and development. I feel like I need to go back and re-read to synthesize everything because this book doesn't take you to the next step in applying the research findings as easily as some others (I'm thinking specifically about Malcolm Gladwell). At the same time, I think the first (and second) read was/will be well worth it. ]]>
