I've always believed it is best to read a book before seeing the movie. Perhaps it seems like the purer way of absorbing a story. In the case of Memoirs of a Geisha, though, I saw the movie several years before i read the book, and I actually found this order to be more satisfying. If I'd read the book before seeing the movie, I might not have like the movie at all because the book is much more interesting. I think I was able to pay more attention to the details in the book, too, because I already knew what was (basically) going to happen. I found this book to be really engrossing.
