This book would be fluff if it wasn't so dirty, but I enjoyed it. It was a quick, fun read which reached for significance at times but never quite achieved it. In keeping with its neo-noir style, you never really like any of the characters, and there really aren't any good guys to root for. Like American Gods, from which it is largely derivative, it doesn't give you much of a sense of where the plot is going until it gets there. Its portrayal of the extremes of "conservative" and "liberal" attitudes are pure caricature, which leave both sides looking smarmy and debauched. Reading it does take a strong stomach or a jaded heart; Ellis covers some pretty bizarre kinks in near-pornographic detail. It is definitely not a book most people will like or enjoy, and I would not recommend it to anyone who wasn't planning to read it already. But, if you've got some free time on your hands, and you've reached the point where the crazy stuff on the internet more amuses than shocks you, it's definitely worth a read.
