I can't believe I'm saying this, but... I give up.

I paused while reading this, on page 205, and I never picked it up again because the thought of returning to it was just excruciating. The pages that I did read, I spent mindlessly skimming through. T

This was such a gorgeous, well-written magical realism. I haven't read many, but this definitely won't be my last. I don't even know which parts I can pick out as my favourites, because I loved the whole thing. I loved the characters, Aracely, Miel, ...more

I'm just gonna say it - this is like if Hamlet and Measure for Measure had a baby.

I've decided that Shakespeare's historical plays are my least favourite of his works. I much prefer comedies (self-explanatory) and tragedies (to a lesser extent).

Did I dislike this book? Definitely not. Did it blow me away? Nah. It was pretty fun and adventurous (something that was lacking in many of the YA books I've read recently) and I liked the secondary characters, like Digby and Felix (sort of?) and tha ...more

Tahereh Mafi
“I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”
Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me

“Envy is when you want what someone else has. Jealousy’s when you also don’t want them to have it.”
Kirsten Hubbard, Wanderlove

“Um...Mercer? Haven't seen you in nearly a month. I was expecting something like, 'Oh Cross, love of my heart, fire of my loins, how I've longed--”
Rachel Hawkins, Spell Bound

Melina Marchetta
“We approach the house and I wave at Jimmy.
"And if he thinks he's eating with us, he's got another thing coming," my dad says.
Jimmy approaches us and takes the shopping bags from me, looking inside them.
"Lamb roast. Am I invited?”
Melina Marchetta, Saving Francesca

“Yeah, I was thinking about taking one of those showers where you huddle in the corner fully clothed and cry," Archer offered.”
