I'd been delaying reading this book, assuming that the hype was more about sympathy for the Afghan people. Nah, it's just good. Always nice to hear an author read his/her own book.

I discovered Allende via some old videos of author talks at the Miami Book Fair. Perhaps this book wasn't the best way to introduce myself to her work, but it was good nevertheless.
