Not bad, not bad at all. This is yet another example of how I wished Goodreads would give a half-star option.

This book has consistently been listed as "if you liked Harrty Potter..." type book. True, there are many fanciful intelligent creatures (e.g., Holly Stone the Elf and Foaly the Centaur) and the main character, Artemis Fowl, is an exceptionally brilliant 12 year old boy. However, that is where the similarities end.

This book was excellent. It is the story of Lavinia, the wife of Aeneas who we all know quite well from Greek and Roman literature. However, Lavinia was a relatively small part of the larger story and you never heard her side of things until now. LeGuin provides an absolutely wonderful perspective of a young woman born of a king, subjected to prophecy, and ultimately is a very interesting character in literature. Like Iphegenia at Awless, Lavinia was not given her due until now.
