Still, even though it doesn't particularly break any new story ground with the plot, it is such a fun and visually amazing ride that it doesn't matter that it didn't do anything new -- it did the old plot really well! Namely, the first two of the trilogy -- can't say I really liked the last book on the same level as the first two because those were honestly the best books I've ever read. I am always an emotional wreck at the end of her books (I loved Wildwood Dancing and Cybele's Secret). Reread to ribbons.

It's not just because Marillier's romances are always so sweet and occasionally heartrending -- it's also the family element that she always weaves into the writing that makes the books such powerful reads, and damn if you don't wish you were the heroine. Also, topping my nerd list is The Doctor. Yes, he may be an space adventurer who singlehandedly (more often than not) defeats evil and dangerous aliens, but he will always do it with knowledge!

Lastly, for the TV nerds, Bones from Bones. Female nerds are possibly the coolest characters ever, and don't get enough love.

For books, I gotta say Sherlock Holmes is my all-time favorite nerd. He may solve crime, he may smoke a pipe and shoot up cocaine, but at heart, he is the nerdiest nerd to ever hit the world of fiction!]]>
