Thanks, Rob! I miss him direly and have a picture of him on the cover of Rolling Stone actually hanging on my wall. I never met him nor did he promote me in any way (lucky you!) but he had a tremendous influence on my writing and my political beliefs. All of his works are great, but I never appreciated this book until actually visiting Las Vegas. Now it is my favorite of his books. I'm glad he was able to get RS to acknowledge you. You must have made a good impression on a great man!

I haven't been on Goodreads in more than four years, and was re-reading my reviews, preparing to unload a heap of new reviews of what I've read in the last four years (I work in "dumps", literally and metaphorically), and I found the conversation resulting from this review to be one of the funniest and wittiest reactions to anything I've ever written. I especially loved that someone said: "I'm also amused by the fact that no one's addressed Nathan's complaint that there wasn't enough cocaine in "The Amazing..." Is that a unilateral consensus? But just imagine how much more annoying and overly chatty they all would have been." Thank you, Hannah. Seriously. I actually "laughed out loud".

I love the entire universe of Star Trek for, ironically, a lot of the same ideals that fans of the LOTR trilogy and The Hobbit have told me drew them to that franchise. But come one... after 3 movies, so much hype, surely it is not too big a deal that some random guy who happens to like other things wrote a review of the one book he read in the franchise (despite being dragged to the movies) and expressed the fact that he wasn't that impressed with any of it, and found it somewhat right-wing and reactionary and a bit boring (lotsa walking). That he also felt that way about the one book he read... well surely it is okay that one person on the Internet expressed that he felt that way, right? Doesn't mean he doesn't like to read.
