Bumped this up to 4 stars because it has my current fave quote:

She caught a bus as afar as Vauxhall, and from there she crossed the river and wandered north, taking any street that caught her eye.

She loved these walks through London. She seemed, as s

It turns out I am still a sucker for a sweet little romance, and just discovered this is about to be released as a movie. It's a quick and easy read that includes some drawings by the author's husband awwww.

Uncomfortable read for me. Race, gender and obsession. The infatuation reminded me of heightened teenage feelings which I'm glad to be done with. Written large here in an otherwise perfectly capable woman in her 30s annoyed me, as it seemed to sap he ...more

The sweetest book, recommended in a roundabout way by a kid, who in sobs instructed her mum to read it. That, and the cover, got me in. The light touch kid growth plot - learning your values, your strengths, your potential, delivered. I wasn't sobbin ...more

This was a slow burn for me, I was initially irritated by the analysis within the novel, but by the end I was hooked. It was so refreshing to read about an ordinary couple, not the fairytale, not the tragedy, but a couple getting through the everyday ...more

Thanks to my niece for this recommendation - perfect escapism that kept me up late, had me reading in the carpark before work and at lunchtime. Loved it.

I like a story of redemption - flawed characters making good gives hope to us all.

"There were single drivers, and he supposed they must be office workers because their faces appeared fixed as if the joy had been squeezed away, and then there

For a book called life after life, I spent much of it waiting for the inevitable round of death. Love the concept though, what choices would you make with various do-overs.

Challenging read, a little depressing at times - Kate's head is so messy, and some of the things she deals with as a middle class woman who has just finished raising kids aren't pleasant. But it's a good read because Kate provides such a great insigh ...more

“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.”
Henry James

Hugh Mackay
“You don’t have to be rich to leave a positive legacy; you don’t have to be intelligent, famous, powerful or even particularly well organised, let alone happy. You need only to treat people with kindness, compassion and respect, knowing they will have been enriched by their encounters with you.”
Hugh Mackay, The Good Life

George Bernard Shaw
“This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.”
George Bernard Shaw

Douglas Adams
“I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer”
Douglas Adams

Jasper Fforde
“If the real world were a book, it would never find a publisher. Overlong, detailed to the point of distraction-and ultimately, without a major resolution.”
Jasper Fforde, Something Rotten
