the paradox of this beauty is that it is actually a mystical journey akin to laying in the grass and staring into the sun. yea, i could riff on the dry humor that resonates off the hollowbody rebuffs by skip james and michaelangelo antonioni that are worth the price of admission by themselves, but that doesn't begin to pluck the bareness of fahey's magic. an hallucinogenic fishing trip with bukka white and a spiritual covenant made with the ghost of hank williams are depictions of a soul that truly uses art as a medium of emotion. without so much as a slight of hand or a whammy bar, fahey shows us how the relationships we have with music can transform our lives. i just got done sharing this book with my father and he loved it, too. i look forward to andrew's review...go ahead, destroy your life, join the club....less

the key to new journalism was to get inside your subject's head. people think this sounds easy when they read the beat writers, hunter s. thompson, and other people who dug amphetamines. the poise that wolfe brings to this arena was the obsessive amount of research that accompanies reporting. now, i know the subject of this book itself was actually important to the cultural shift occurring at the time and the furthur bus characters themselves were almost mythic entities of that era, but it was really wolfe's breadth of perspective that transcended the era's conceptual force. i don't want to ruin the end for anyone out there but, we blew it....less

so i'm watching this charlie rose panel discussion with the editors/creative directors of interview magazine along with marc jacobs in commemoration of andy's 80th birthday. unfortunately, everyone's too busy saying how ahead of his time andy was and what an exemplification of 'cool' andy's retrospective work represents, especially the magazine he started. and yet, i can't shake wryly genuine feeling that if andy were here, he couldn't help just saying, "oh, you're all so good-looking (especially you, marc) and you're analysis SOUNDS so intelligent." again, the surface sees through the depths....less
