I read this book when I was in a transition of being exposed to Christ from a Catholic Background to a Christian Background.
INSPIRATION:
I am wondering 'what is my purpose here on Earth?' a lot of times since I was on my Elementary years throughout my teen years so that's what inspired me to read this book.
The answer as the book suggested? "For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed." - (Acts 3:36)
The Point? David Served God's Purpose in his generation. This got me going like ok? what next? are you saying that I should serve God in my generation as well? why?
This did not made any sense to me. Until i Became a Christian which draws me to a....
CONCLUSION:
1. If you are a non-Christian do not read this book it will never make sense.
2. It did not explain the reason on why would we serve God in our generation.
Where did it go wrong?
THE GOSPEL HAS BEEN MISREPRESENTED why? (see link).
Due to all these facts, I am still thankful that God had taught me through Rick Warren wrote that...
LEARNED LESSONS:
1. Worship is NOT JUST Singing. It's Everything that we do for Him.
2. In everything that we do we can worship God (i.e. eating, walking)
3. If you are a Christian your purpose should be clear, and reading your Bible would be a better idea.
OUR PURPOSE:
That is to Imitiate, Follow, Serve, Obey, (you get the gist) God.

DETAILS:
1.) This book is clearly not Intended for Non-Christians; - Same as your point. (since the Gospel is not clearly presented.)
2.)Reading the Bible is better; - We should be prioritizing on reading our Bible over every book out there. Which means you can still read different books.
3.) Paraphrase Translations of Msg. - The Paraphrase is too far from the Original.
