Another Richard Bolitho naval story. The time covered is the end of 1794 to summer 1795 as the war with France continues to develop. Captain Richard Bolitho is in command of the ship of the line HYPERION and resumes blockade duty as part of a squardon. The French ships they are blockading break out and they are ordered to pursue them and destroy them. The mission takes them into the Caribbean and then back to the Bay of Biscay for the climatic battle. Again, it is Bolitho's leadership and skills that win the day for the British navy....less

The story is a bit convoluted at times, but still interesting....less

June, 1793, Richard Bolitho takes command of the HYPERION, a 74 gun ship of the line, at Gibraltar. He will be serving in the western Mediterranean off the coast of France in the early stages of the war with revolutionary France.
This is another action packed adventure novel in the Bolitho series which further developes his leadership and command skills and developing respect amount fellow commanders, but not necessarily those above him....less

I have heard a lot about the Father Brown mysteries, but never read any until this one. I was disappointed because I was expecting a novel, but instead found a complilation of short stories in which Brown unravels several mysteries. Each story follows the same pattern: a mystery is presented, Father Brown appears on the scene or is the one presenting the information, information is presented regarding what happened, then Father Brown unravels the mystery, and tells you how it happened. There isn't much investigating, more exposition with Brown being the only one who sees through everything and is able to piece everything together....less
