My intent in item 2 was to point out that Einstein had a mental state which was aware of the impermanence of existence on this Earth, not that existence itself is a mental state. There was nothing that I gleaned from the Einstein book that stated Einstein believed existence to be "a mental state".

Einstein, Einstein, Einstein. I feel like I might be allowed to say it like Bohr was quoted as frustratingly saying it in the book...Some pertinent information that I hadn't come across before this book:
1. Einstein believed in an "objective reality". I suppose this is why he resisted Quantum Mechanics and instead chose to pursue the Unified Field Theory. You gotta' hand it to him for attempting the Unified Field Theory...the more I think of it, the more I believe that the number of variables required to understand all the forces of the Universe (I believe there are currently 4) does seem daunting.
2. Einstein was accutely aware of the impermanence of existence in this world, which is a mental state that, from what I can gather, is a Buddhist idealization. There is a quote in the book that sounds a lot like the Diamond Sutra, 4 line poem.
And lastly, I don't see how science can hope to solve humanities problems. It seems that the knowledge of self-control might be a "super-knowledge", or at least hierarchically speaking, is a higher knowledge than equations for "E". I haven't been taught self-control in science class, but perhaps I fell asleep through it.
