I gave this five starts a few minutes ago, but since I really wanted to give it 4.75, I bumped it down. The novel isn't finished. That's obvious, especially later in the novel. I don't feel like writing a review, per se. It's a beautiful piece of work that will stay with me for a very long time. The longest chapter of the book, "The Part about the Crimes," is exceptionally crafted. The repetition, accumulating bodies, and endless police investigation form a somewhat obvious metaphor for a writer's work, and Bolano makes direct reference later in the novel to remove any doubt.
