I thought that, without being set at Hogwarts, this book might not have that same "Harry Potter magic," and while it did feel distinctly different from the other books, that difference served to cement the fact that this was it: the end of the saga.

In some places it felt a little meandering and aimless, but I appreciated the aimlessness because I thought it added to the book's realism; I was glad that things didn't come too easily for Harry and the gang because they really had *so little* to go by that it would have been completely unbelievable if things just fell into place. Yes, it was slightly unbelievable that Harry kept getting out of impossible situations, but I'd rather have a touch of unbelievability than a dead Harry. The end battle, on the other hand, was more believable than I'd expected.

This book made me cry a lot, and I appreciate J.K. Rowling's jump to 20 years in the future so that we didn't have to stay in the grieving period too long. I spent the whole book waiting for Snape to redeem himself and was very satisfied when he finally did (I never lost faith in Snape, despite venemous protests from all my friends: "But he killed Dumbledore! What kind of evil HP fan likes *Snape*?) I've always prided myself on being an excellent judge of fictional characters. Also, for all the admiration I hold for J.K. Rowling's ability to create compelling storylines and characters, I think her matchmaking abilities fall short; I wouldn't have paired up the characters the same way she did and I have a little trouble believing those unions will be really successful. I couldn't figure out why Harry didn't end up raising Teddy since he's the godfather, and I was a little troubled that we never got to find out who DID raise the lad, although I assume it was probably his grandparents. And I was disappointed that we never got to find out what kinds of jobs Harry, Hermione, and Ron ended up getting, Hogwarts dropouts that they were. ;)...less "
