Wright mentions a comparison study of the Salem Witch trials and the satanic abuse hysteria of the 80s in the book. During the Salem Witch trials, it was mostly wealthy men accusing women (those in power accusing the powerless), therefore keeping the status quo. In the satanic abuse hysteria, it was mostly daughters accusing their wealthy fathers (the powerless going after the powerful). I don't know how relevant it is, but it's interesting.
