This book is referred to by one of Jane Austen's characters in "Northanger Abbey". I thought it would be fun to read. Fun was not the right word. There was A LOT of crying and carrying on by the characters (what a bunch of boobs!) and someone was always fainting. Once we did get to the mysterious part, it was page 200-something. There was also A LOT of description about the scenery; Radcliffe would go on and on and on about the mountains, shrubs or whatever. The worst part was all of the poetry - I just skipped right over it. But overlooking the crying, long-winded pastoral descriptions, fainting, and poetry, it was a fun story line and indeed was scary and mysterious. ...less
