I recently got my test score back and I passed, so I guess I'm happy with this book. I used it to pass the pre-design exam under version 3.1. The only preparation I did for this test was to read this book cover to cover, answer the questions at the end of each chapter and took some notes. I did not complete the practice exam in the book, or the ones that I had on a CD, but I managed to pass. I also had a set of flashcards that went with this volume that I went through once but did not review. Most of the flashcards were very simple terms, and maybe about 20% of the cards were helpful in clarifying they way they expect some of the terms on the test to be used. It's not the most exciting read ever, but it definitely helps clarify how the test makers expect you to understand their test.

Okay, I read this because I'm missing the TV show and I just couldn't wait until summer. I wasn't expecting anything fantastic, it's an easy mindless read. It's got what you need, vampires, sex, vampire sex, murder, and so forth. Basically this book was pretty similar to the TV series, though from what I've heard that changes in later books. It was kinda pleasant getting a bit of inner monologue from Sookie, which made me like her a little more than I do on the show. (I don't dislike her at all, but she can be uptight and the book made her make a little more sense.) Tara is missing, but most of the familiar characters are present at least. As someone who watched the show first, I guess that made the end of the book drag a little since I knew what to expect. But all in all it was a fun read. And with a reference to David Duchovny and detailed descriptions of Sookie picking out outfits it struck me that Charlene Harris knows her audience. Her largely female, X-files and vampire loving audience...
