Although not greatly, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was interesting to learn about the misperceptions around midwifery and "modern" childbirth in the early 1900's. I liked that the story was located in Canada, so I could learn a little more abou...more

Although this book is a travel log of a specimen-collecting trip to Baja California, there is enough of Steinbeck's philosophy of life to keep it interesting. It's not one of his best books, but good.

The first part of this book really kept my interest. I was interested in seeing what happened. (I bought this book having no idea what it was about.) After about 100 pages, somebody told me it was about sado-masichism and my interest started to wane....more

I liked the moral questions brought up in this book. For example, 1) should a Nazi, who participated in the killing of Jews, who then became a model, loving citizen in the US, be tried as a war criminal 70 years later? Or, 2) suppose there was a Nazi...more

This book has some very unusual things happen. It is downright weird. I didn't like it because it was hard to tell what was happening. Weird things would happen, with no rhyme or reason, and we would never figure out why they happened. So, I gave up.

I liked this book because it was about a lady, Olga, in her nineties competing in track and field! I liked the 9 rules for living in the last pages. Much of the rest of the book was interesting, but it was written in a way that couldn't keep my inter...more

This was a fun book to read. I'm not usually a sci-fi fan, but this seemed like "light" sci-fi. Some of the technical explanations were too technical for me, so I skimmed over them. The humor was good.
