Definitely a different kind of read for book club and one I never would have picked on my own. What a horrible childhood. The author has a very unique way to express his sad story for the plus side. Some archetype characters with a little bit of dark humor but more morose than comical. The author admits that his mother had many issues of her own that might explain her abhorrent behavior but the book is from his point of view during childhood. Seeing the insane maternal grandmother, one can somewhat understand the mother's aberration. A reminder that children do not understand or care about why things are they way that they are... they just need to feel secure and wanted. ]]>
