    <about><![CDATA[My latest book (that I'm writing!) is a WW II novel set in Italy, specifically at Cassino, which was a horrifically protracted battle in the German-held mountains south of Rome in the dead of winter. Lasted four months and cost 45,000 Allied and 20,000 German soldiers killed or wounded. <br/><br/>As I was neither there nor even old enough to remember WW II everything I am reading now is about GIs in WW II (particularly those in the 34th and 36th Divisions), Cassino and the Italian campaign in general. <br/> ]]></about>
