Wow. *stunned silence* Umm... Wow. Where to begin?
I'll just go right ahead and say it: This is now one of my all-time favorites, and that sure is saying something.
This book is part murder mystery, part supernatural romance, and I can't remember the last time I read something so seductive, dark or bloody. (And not since my Raphael/Uriel dream have angels been this foxy.) From making me smile and laugh (Vee especially, I love that chick!), it went straight to making me unable to go to sleep because I had to know what happened next. It's very engaging, it pulls you in and holds you there for a roller coaster ride like nothing you've read before. At the end, more specifically the “rafter incident”, I had tears in my eyes.
There's a great cast of characters, full of surprises (from the dark side), all very entertaining.
All I can think is: Damn, I wish it had lasted longer. Now I'm starving (starving, I say!) for the sequel, Crescendo.
Also, I think Jace (Cassie Clare, The Mortal Instuments) has to move over. Seems I've got a new love.

First of all: I really loved this book. It's been quite some time since I've read something that's kept me this frozen in suspense. It has a nice mix of things I endlessly hate: like shrinks with dope to keep your mind numb, or loss of freedom, and things I simply love: interesting and very different, dynamic characters, conspiracies and the loveliest arsonist I have ever heard of, I really loved Rae.
I also really loved Derek, a character whose man-of-few-words charms snuck up on me (Simon too, but he's more of a straightforward sweetie pie), until all I want to do is save him.
This was a book that was very easily digested, and got me hooked during the first two chapters. I read half the book on the first day (usually I trudge my even way through the books, no matter how exciting, well not this time), Kelley Armstrong does a very good job in building and building suspense until you can barely put it down to go to (some very neglected) sleep. It has an ending full of betrayal and false identities, an oh-my-god-it's-all-one-big-trap ending, the enemy is everywhere, which is somehow satisfying, since you've been feeling something's not right, the “supernatural Holocaust” coming out in the open. A persecution executed by people who can't handle a man on his elbows and knees, puking his guts out, sprouting hair (sorry, couldn't resist that spoiler).
I will definitely read the sequel (The Awakening) some time.
So check this one out. It was just (in lack of a better word) awsome. ]]>
