you could also do:
- biography or some kind of non-fiction book.
- a book from another country (not necessarily another language since many are translated these days)
- a book that won a certain award (or any literary award)
- something off the top 100 list (which i think was cumulated by the Daily Telegraph)
- a book by an author you'd previously never heard of
- any kind of genre (horror/comedy/romance etc.)

^_^

OK, this book is addictive. But very predictable. If it wasn't so gory I'd even lump it with the teen fiction.

Was it well written? It's nothing special.
Did I enjoy it? Yes.

Despite the flaws (characters are too heavily based on stereo-types, some of the plot comes out of thin air), this book hooks you pretty quickly. Literally every time you try to put it down somebody is found murdered or beaten up or shagged.

I found the novel lacked description. And I have a hard time sympathizing with a protagonist who 'knows she's pretty'. I would probably like it more if there had been more descriptive fight scenes, more descriptive sex - really other than the vampire bites her when he's nearing climax it doesn't sound special and yet it's portrayed to be.

I also had an issue with the personality change the protagonist goes under after losing her virginity. Bit extreme.

Anyway, I felt at the end that this book could stand alone. And it would still be OK. I'm reluctant to rave about it, because it was so obvious who the killer was. As a result I felt like the main characters weren't that smart. And I wanted a hero ending. Wasn't that the point? I felt the last few pages were an anti-climax.

Finally, do I have any desire to read the rest of the series? Meh. I probably will eventually. But I don't feel a need to.
