Yeah, the names were kind of confusing. But that's no good reason to not like a book.

When I read the summary on the back I was expecting a complex, dark scary tale. And while it does have some of that: a well-imagined world, interesting magics, and amazing creatures, by the time I finished reading, I realized the entire book-a couple hundred pages, was based on one single painfully simple plot line. I'm serious, there were no surprises or twists at all.

At the beginning it revolved around a mystery, so of course the characters did the predictable: they spent a few hundred pages trying to solve it. Then they did the predictable again: they fought the evil. And again: they won, with no problems in between, The End.

The narrative kept switching from character to character too quickly; By the time I actually got interested in one character, it had already moved on to talk about another one. Then another. And another.

I felt like the plot was dragging me along on a rope. It was written as if the prologue was a hundred pages long, not just a few. None of the characters felt real to me, even the ones that were not stereotypes. The main character, Tamara, is brave, gifted with magical powers, intelligent, a little fiery, and, of course, beautiful. (Where have I seen that before?)

In a whole, the authors did some things well: the writing, the imagining and picturing of the world of Albion, the creating of interesting places and creatures. But (and I have seen this many times) this is pointless when your characters and your plot are not well developed.
