Okay - I just gave up on this book after reading three quarters of it. It was dark from the get go and kept getting worse and worse until I drew the line at throat slashing and pedophilia. It certainly wasn't poorly written but I feel like the constant need to shock in every story is a shortcoming. If you want to read the good version of this book check out 'The Thing Around Your Neck' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, another Nigerian writer. Don't get me wrong - this book is not high art or even High Fidelity. But if you want an enjoyable book that reads like a Hollywood screenplay this will do the trick. The last book I read (Liars & Saints) featured incest, teen pregnancy, cancer of the jaw and murder so I was really ready for a lovely and light novel like Juliet, Naked. ]]>
