“Jett,” she mumbled as she walked passed him, “I’ll see what he wants.”

“I know what he wants,” he said sharply. “Kevin and Riley are talking to him now. I want to find out what he is to you.”

Her gut roared with sharp pains all at one time. What is he to me? At one time, he was her everything, her only reason for getting up in the morning, or maybe even drawing air. Master Brock was her purpose.

“I spent some time with him on the last assignment. He’s going to take one look at me and know someone here has me pretty worked up. It may not go over well.”

“Is that a warning?” Jett growled before he slammed her against the wall forming a human enclosure and shielding her with his large body.

“If you weren’t intimate with him, how would he know?” Jett inquired.

She swallowed hard and fought back tears. Why now, Brock? Why now! “I…I never had sex with him but he…he just observed me and he went everywhere with me for nearly a year.”

“Uh-huh, I see. So what’s the guy’s name?” Jett asked gripping her shoulders.

“Everyone calls him Brock. I think it’s his last name.”

Jett released her. “Brock?”

He looked like he took a punch to the gut. <p>

“Yes,” she said rubbing her arms. “He was assigned to my detail.” <p>

“One assignment?” Jett’s face tensed. “Answer me, Sydney! One detail?” <p>

“Yes.” Damn it to hell. “No, no…no. I’m sorry, Jett. I don’t want to talk about it. There were several assignments. I’m not sure how many. He’s trusted, uh…one of the higher ups, I think. He’s in charge of the assignments now when I’m sent out of town and he’s thorough.” <p>

Was he ever, with one exception… where a woman needs a man to follow through most. <p>

“I’ll bet he is,” Jett growled. <p>

“He’s one of Dad’s men,” she informed. <p>

Luke shook his head when he joined them. “No, he’s not one of your dad’s men,” he told her. “He’s one of ours.” <p>
