I liked the idea of this book more than the book itself. A vampire series set in the American South caught my interest immediately but the more I read the less I liked. The writing is bad, the plot was fairly straightforward but boring, and the main character is a stunningly beautiful twit. Ugh. There isn't really anything that saves this book. If you're intrigued by the idea of southern vampires, watch the tv show. With that at least you'll have the added bonus of some eye-candy. ]]>

I remember reading this book in middle school at the prodding of my 7th grade English teacher. It wasn't for class but simply because he thought I'd enjoy it and I had to admit then, as I continue to do now, that he was right.
The book itself was a journey, the journey for Adam to his father, the journey for him to remember what he'd forgotten, and the journey for the reader to watch the mystery unfold. The ending was such a mindscrew to my 7th grade self that I couldn't help but turn back to the beginning and read it again and again, searching for any foreshadowing hints and clues that I'd missed before. This one is a true classic and still one of my all time favorite books. ]]>
