Reviewing all of these at once is probably easier.

The first book - GREAT I was hungry for more.

The second book - pretty good, I was still interested. And he did some unexpected things in the 2nd book. It had parts though, that were just too much.

This was the best book of the series to me unfortunately. I really loved the daemon concept and the little girl is one of the better child figures I've read in literature.

Very nice.

By the by, I don't see many religious overtones in the initial book

Oh this book was great! A really fun fun book that is more about the characters than the story. I love the characters themselves, the relationships they have with each other, and the great understanding Inspector Barnaby has of them all.

What I learned from this book was that overly complicated denouements can kill a decent detective story more completely than anything else. Yeah I didn't guess who did it, and I certainly didnt' guess the mechanism...but hell, who WOULD.

Ok. I'm going to admit it. I saw the BBC movie version of Pride and Prejudice first.

They were able to capture Austin's gift with language quite well, but I have to say her book, as is so often the case I know, blows the movie out of the water.
