I started Virginia Wolfe's "Mrs. Dalloway" a year ago and gave up and returned it to the library. Strike one.
As much as I wanted to like this movie which stars three great actresses, I fast forwarded most of it because I just could not understand the actions of any of the characters. Strike two.
No explanation then as to why I picked up this book and read it within 24 hours, but home run! This is a powerful book and I was able to keep what I remember about the movie separate. This book is 100% about the thoughts and feelings of three women. In the movie you see their actions, but I did not understand what was behind them. Beautifully written and although similar to Wolfe's stream of consciousness, this novel helped me see Wolfe in a different light. I might even try again with "Mrs. Dalloway". Maybe. ]]>

This book is not an easy read, but was so worth it. For me it took time and focus. I could not pick this up and only read a few pages, I had to work at it in a peaceful place where I could focus. With every page and every step that Inman takes back to his sweetheart Ada, the story and the charcters build to a beautifully heartbreaking end. Epic. ]]>
