Stop laughing. Yes, that means you, Jonathan. I am going to read this book.

I was wondering whether anyone had written a cozy mystery involving yoga when I discovered this series. Admittedly, I am still pretty new to the cozy mystery genre, but so far, I have not been very impressed with the strength of writing (or copy editing, for that matter -- page 7 has the protagonist "turn[ing:] a shoulder on her perspective client.") I've seen for this genre. There are definitely some witty quips in Corpse Pose, and the mystery is interesting.

I decided I don't like the Sarah Deane character. Are all cozy mysteries sleuths this annoying or is it because the author of the series is an older woman? Actually, I don't know how old she is, but an obit for her husband, who passed last December states that he was 89, so my assumption is that she's around that age too. The writing style reminds me of the original Carolyn Keene Nancy Drew series and the Sarah Deane character comes off as though she's from another era and a little naive.

What's interesting is that the series started in the 80s and Sarah has barely aged. :) Similarly, she apparently hasn't figured out how to use a cell phone yet, although maybe in Maine they don't have great service. Just a thought. She needs to be updated a little.

I always enjoy Carter's books. This one is the first that does not center on the black intellectual elite but rather, the old boy's club of national security. It's not literary genius, but it's a page turner none-the-less. Although, I'm not sure I totally get the ending. Oh well.
