I wanted to like this so much more than I did. I enjoyed the energetic style for the most part, but eventually I got the feeling that the book was attempting a high-wire act and fell a bit short. It could also be true that I found Oscar's family history so interesting that I was disappointed whenever the narrative swung back to him. ]]>
