Susan Susan said: " I don't think I am going to read it now. Perhaps sometime in the future I will get back to it. It will fascinate someone that is or was in the medical field. For a lay person this may not interest you. But, the book is for a lay person, not scholarly ...more"

"i found this book about Cancer very interesting. I only read up to page 125. It is very interesting, but it is very hard to digest. I took a break from it, and planned to return to it and that was 2 years ago. I was a nurse and felt it had new prospective since I work at Sloan Kettering. Things have changed since then. Learning about the history from ancient times to the 1960's was interesting. Many times hit or mis" Mar 11, 2014 01:29PM

North of Boston, the title alone drew me in. But like they say, don't judge a book by it's cover.

The character's were well developed. The plot was good up to a point. The beginning drew me in where she was on a boat with her friend. She was thrown o

Sarah Addison Allen
“Books can be possessive, can't they? You're walking around in a bookstore and a certain one will jump out at you, like it had moved there on its own, just to get your attention. Sometimes what's inside will change your life, but sometimes you don't even have to read it. Sometimes it's a comfort just to have a book around. Many of these books haven't even had their spines cracked. 'Why do you buy books you don't even read?' our daughter asks us. That's like asking someone who lives alone why they bought a cat. For company, of course.”
Sarah Addison Allen, The Sugar Queen

Jane Austen
“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”
Jane Austen

Nancy Pearl
“If you're 50 years old or younger, give every book about 50 pages before you decide to commit yourself to reading it, or give it up.

If you're over 50, which is when time gets shorter, subtract your age from 100 - the result is the number of pages you should read before deciding whether or not to quit. If you're 100 or over you get to judge the book by its cover, despite the dangers in doing so.”
Nancy Pearl

Eleanor Roosevelt
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
Eleanor Roosevelt, This is My Story

Jennifer Egan
“I’m done. I’m old, I’m sad - that’s on a good day. I want out of this mess. But I don’t want to fade away, I want to flame away - I want my death to be an attraction, a spectacle, a mystery. A work of art.”
Jennifer Egan, A Visit from the Goon Squad
