Thanks everyone--Dave, Joe, Susan, Paul, Gordon, and Nadia! It's hard to say what sells books. Of the 12 book bloggers I've gotten from Bosticks, I've checked out their sites and eliminated some as not even relevant to my book. Others I emailed and asked if they would consider a guest blog, rather than mailing them a book and trusting that someone would read it and post a positive review(lots of "ifs"). Several were willing to post my guest blog. I may mail a few books selectively. I agree with you Dave that it's hard to find what sells books. I did a live interview on a locally produced TV station and at the booksignings that night and the next day got no one who came as a result of the program. A few came as a result of booktour.com. A local spa catering to women sells 10 or more of my books a month--mine's the only book they stock. I think if a magazine excerpts the book or does an article based on it that will sell books.

As the author of the newly published book CHANGE YOUR MINDSET NOT YOUR MAN, I'm having some publicity challenges and wonder if other self-help, spiritual, or psychology authors have had some good experiences promoting their books. I'm finding that self help books are not usually reviewed and it's a tougher sell to get book signings. However, reporters are calling for expert information to include in their stories and some radio talk shows are interested. If you have a self-help book please share how it's going and what successes you've had marketing it.

Hi Everyone! My name is Sally Watkins and I'm new to social networking but wanted to chime in here. My website is www.sallywatkins.net and my book is Change Your Mindset Not Your Man, a self-help psychology book just published this month by Adams Media. I'm a psychotherapist with a practice in Folsom California. This is my first book and my publisher has very few resources for marketing. I have several signings and interviews scheduled. Also Turn Here is making me a FREE book trailer to market their service. I had the video shoot last Wednesday but haven't seen the 60 second video yet. I still haven't found my niche on Goodreads but am enjoying all the posts.

Twenty years as a psychotherapist showed me that I wasn't alone, that there are many women who are disappointed, frustrated, and despairing about their relationships. The happily-ever-after myth is so embedded in our culture we don't realize how it traps us in relationship misery and failures. The message in my book is what I needed as a young woman--that there is no substitute for growing a self and creating a full passionate life, that a man can't possibly be your fulfillment. See my book website for more information at www.sallywatkins.net.

I't hard on guys when we women want what they have not been socialized to provide. They're prepared to do the heavy lifting and make money but when we ask them to meet our emotional needs and even "daddy" us like our father never did, it naturally makes them defensive and angry. They sometimes conclude that they aren't able to please us and stop trying. The conflict comes from trying to get happiness, validation, and love from another when the only one you can change is yourself!

What we do to get more connection with a man often backfires, even couples counseling when the goal is to fix him. I spell it out exactly what to do instead. This has taken me a lifetime to understand and I wrote this book to save others from the dead ends and wrong turns I made.
