I have had my ups and downs with Cormac McCarthy over the years. I've read almost all his novels, and have felt, at times, that he is in love with cruelty and violence and raises this human behavior to epic heights (especially in "The Crossing" and "Blood Meridian"). So, after several years off, I went back to McCarthy after my husband read THE ROAD and was totally blown away by it. I think this novel is perfect. There is none of that glorifying of torture or evil here. This is a very linear book, a simple tale, really, but written so beautifully, and with such control, that it knocked by breath out of me. This is a perfect novel.

I really loved this mystery. I loved learning about Sweden and its economic system. I thought the book was almost perfect, and was definitely one of the best mysteries I read last year; however, the ending was a bit of a let-down, and didn't live up to my expectations of this wonderful book.
