Some of the language is lovely. The story is actually pretty interesting. But good lord, how Byron does run on! Perhaps our ears are less sensitive these days, but if this had been read out loud to me, I'm afraid I would have fallen asleep. Gripping and authentic. The main character is endearing and adorable, and still fiercely all boy. The author/narrator is deeply moving, and you live through the book with him. Maybe not the best-written book stylistically, but timeless in theme.
