“Allowing yourself to stop reading a book - at page 25, 50, or even, less frequently, a few chapters from the end - is a rite of passage in a reader's life, the literary equivalent of a bar mitzvah or a communion, the moment at which you look at yourself and announce: Today I am an adult. I can make my own decisions.”

Description:
This is short story I wrote for my introductory creative writing course in my sophomore year of college. It's an extolment of my all-time favorite novel, The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber. It's written in a collage format, so it is broken up into sections that take place in a different time and location.

Description:
This poem is a sestina. A sestina has the same six end words repeated in each stanza, and ends with a tercet that contains all six end words. There's a specific pattern to follow that tells you which end word you need to use in each line of the stanza, but I won't get into that.
I began this poem by coming up with my six end words first, and then I created a story around them.
