I gave this book 4 stars not because I was in love with it but because it was so well written. So many people raved and raved about this book. I agree that it was very well-written. I just couldn't get completely wrapped up in the whole circus theme. The characters were very believeable and I found myself very attached to the main character not for his role in the circus part, but for his role as an old man. Read this book while on vacation. Was looking for a good beach read...this didn't exactly meet that requirement. I have been waiting for a book of Picoult's that I enjoyed as much as Plain Truth. Although this one wasn't completely up to par with Plain Truth, I still thought it was her best in years. The twists and turns, unpredictable ending, and great characters made this a book I could not put down. In reading the jacket, I thought the book was going to be mostly about June and her decision of what she should do for her daughter. I was at first disappointed to realize it was not centered around June, but then very pleasantly surprised at how attached I became to the other characters in the book. Overall, a great read. The jacket of this book made me think I would like it a lot more than I actually did. The book was just kind of all over the place, but not in a way that worked. The author sporadically changed context at random points, and did not revisit what she introduced as sub-plots throughout the book. I found the book fairly confusing. Another good read by Nora Roberts. I like this series a lot - I always pick up one of these books when I need a break from regular reading and just want a quick mystery to pick me up. I read this last weekend and it was the quick fix I was looking for. Some of the books in this series are a bit of a reach (the one with the witchcraft), but this one wasn't too far-fetched for my liking. I like how the author always has a "theme" and it isn't just "find the killer". The killings in her books are always related and keep you guessing until the end.

As a first time parent-to-be, I was completely lost in terms of what we needed to prepare for the baby. I don't have too many close friends who have kids, so I didn't have that many resources to seek out for advice. I was turned onto this book by a friend, and it has been our baby bible! It is so helpful in terms of detailing not only what you need, but how much you "need" to spend on each thing. For instance, I probably would have bought a $$$ crib thinking it was safer for the baby, not knowing that all cribs sold in the U.S. have to meet the same Federal Safety standards. This might be common sense to some, but not to us!

Also, the style of the authors' writing is very personable and easy to keep up with. It is not all facts, thus making it a boring textbook. I picked it up thinking I would browse through it like I would a guidebook when going on vacation and pick up a couple of ideas. In the end, I read it cover to cover and took notes as I read.

This book provided a lot of insight as to what to buy, and also helped us to relax and understand that in this case, less truly is better.

This book was ALMOST as good as her other two, and it gave me the laughs I was hoping for. I didn't laugh out loud as many times in this one as I did in her other two, but still totally worth reading. I have to wonder if this is really how Jen is in real life, because if she is, I would love to be her best friend. She puts a funny spin on everything, and when most people would get completely pissed off or wallow in hatred for others, she changes the mood simply by making fun of the situation. For better or worse, I love that.
