I'm with you! I read Walking On because my friend Jim Clark edited it, but it wasn't for me! I guess that's why I love great old black and white movies (especially musicals)so much. As my mother always used to say, we don't want to have to worry about whether there'll be a happy ending --

What has seemed an exciting and patriotic life story to many other people (especially because of the Walking Tall movies) appears violent and almost surrealistic to me. It's wonderful not to have grown up in such a stressful family environment, and I salute Buford Pusser's daughter Dwana for surviving her childhood in tact. However, I would probably prefer not to have read the book.

My heart goes out to you. My husband and I devoted our lives to my mother, especially in her later years, and we feel that we'll never recover from her loss. She was the center of our lives. We still try to spend time with her friends, whom we love as well.

My friend Jim Clark, who is the world's premiere expert on Don Knotts and The Andy Griffith Show, gave me this book to add to our family's Mayberry collection. I read some fun and interesting things in it, and I even saw Jim's name three or four times, but the book doesn't begin to do justice to Don Knotts' career. It's very conversationally written, includes a number of mistakes, and seems to have the overly simple premise that its authors really, really liked Don Knotts. Of course, so did I.

My beautiful mother asked me several times to read this book, which I thought might apply to her life but not mine, so I never quite did it. Then she died, and I was (and am) bereft, so I started trying to do the many things I should've done before we lost her. Not amazingly, she was correct that I should've read Light for My Path long ago. Maybe I would've understood more about her life and more about my own future because the book is actually a terrific guide through challenging times, with Bible references to help cure most wounds.

It's kind of amazing that Mitch Jayne, who wrote this rather poetic book, has spent much of his life playing bluegrass music with the Dillards (who can still be seen sometimes as the Darlings on the old "Andy Griffith Show"). I guess I wasn't expecting to meet a Renaissance man when I sat down to read.
