Ok, I acually liked the movie...alot. One of my facorites, Throw all of the rotten fruit you want at that admission.

Aside from that, the book was pretty good, and totally different from the movie. I'd go so far as to say that anyone who absolutelty hated the movie but thought the setting was ok would really enjoy it. It goes alot more into why the "doomwar" happened and what that looked like. You learn alot more about nathan holn and his "survivalist" followers. The hokiness of the movie is replaced by a sort of dark despondent feeling that totally works. Check it out, fun sci-fi stuff.

I've come to accept that in order to read any history that involves the Russian people I'm going to have to be prepared for a high level of revulsion at the sheer amount of human suffering it takes for that people to make even the slightest step forward or back.

This book is so well written that it will horrify you. As events escelate the the Grande Armee finds itself shorter on food, without horses, and colder by the day, their suffering becomes almost unbearable to read about. "The Second Polish War" as Napoleon termed it would be one of the most disasterous episodes in military history. The numbers of men involved and the numbers who died as a result would not be surpassed for another hundred years, until the first world war. The failure of this campaign would be the beggining of Napoleons end. Thus the begining of the end of one of the worlds most powerful dictators and most agressive empires.

Needless to say the evnts here are worth knowing about and this book is a perfect way to get an idea of what happened without being totally bogged down by troop movements and tactical blah blah (if your trying to avoid that). I would suggest it to any reader who likes to read a plain ol' good book.

-Kill

A war doesn't end because the leader says that it's over. Every single month after Bush claimed "Mission Acomplished" casualties increasingly mounted. And sure ya we haven't lost very many men "compared to any single battle in WW2" but we are fighting for a country the size of Texas not for entire continents. This war can not be compared to the scale of that war for even an instant. To do so is ignorant. I don't even know why I'm bothering to tear your awful review (thats not a review at all) apart, but have fun with the "we won" back slapping. I'll have none of it.
