Not quite on the same level as Slaughterhouse Five, Sirens of Titan, and Cat's Cradle but still an excellent book. There are so many themes here it makes for a very eclectic novel also the stream-of-consciousness style is a bit of a deviation for Vonnegut but all that makes Breakfast of Champions stand out from his other work. I understand it's something of a fan favorite. I should also say that this is one of the few times when I've seen the theme of a creator encountering his fictional characters handled well.

I don't really read manga but this was just a few bucks so I picked it up. I like that the series doesn't focus on any bit of historical accuracy when it comes to the pirate legend. Instead it just takes the romanticized ideal that we have of pirates and runs with it to create this crazy setting where pirates rule. I found it a little difficult to follow at times but that's probably just because I'm not used to reading manga. Also, it strikes me as strange that the tone and art style of the comic can be so cartoony yet the comic includes violence and bloodshed.

A powerful novel with several important meanings. True knowledge can only come from oneself and the end result is to love the world around you.

I don't normally like reading plays and honestly I found it a little difficult to get into because of that. Also, the 1940's dialogue is a little difficult to understand at times but the message is very poignant and relevant.

This book is significant not for its content but what it shows about the completely reprehensible Tucker Max. Near the end of the book, when the stories start to detail his experiences after achieving fame, it seems that he is no longer enjoying his life as a drunken, womanizing lunatic. Though he would most likely never admit this "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" has a moral. Albeit a hidden one. My prediction is that Tucker Max will eventually fall apart and become another casualty of the American celebrity machine.
