This book was a convoluted mess with seemingly random facts being thrown at me for pages and pages on end without anything actually relevant to the story occurring. I felt like I was being preached to. Like Dan Brown had discovered this new faith and was bound and determined to convert me to it at all costs. If I wanted religion to be screeched at me in my leisure time I'd go to church.
The plot was interesting in parts but ultimately failed to keep me enthralled as Brown's previous books have. I am surprised at how Langdon, who in previous volumes was a bright and insightful character, has been converted into a witless boob amazed by every new "fact" that comes his way no matter how small or unimpressive. To make matters worse, the other characters felt as if they were just paper cutouts with no personality and were easily interchangeable for one another. They seemed only there to fawn over Langdon and spout science/philosophy at him every once in a while. I have never seen such deliberate author inserts.
The Lost Symbol was boring, repetitive, and sadly forgettable. I had a very hard time forcing myself to finish it. Honestly i don't think there's much here even for Brown's fans.
