Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose
Not having seen the miniseries of the same name, I was expecting this story to be on the depressing side. I was pleasantly surprised by the author's sensitivity to the mindset of the soldiers of Easy Company. There are many light moments, even under...more

Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud
This is a deep book. You get a good dose of philosophy and art history with your lesson in how the world works & how we see and understand it. I love McCloud's approach to the subject and his crisp illustrations.

Simon Van Booy
“If there is such a thing as marriage, it takes place long before the ceremony; in a car on the way to the airport; or as a gray bedrooms fills with dawn, one lover watching the other; or as two strangers stand together in the rain with no bus in sight, arms weighed down with shopping bags. You don't know then. But later you realize - that was the moment.”
Simon Van Booy

Patrick deWitt
“...but I could not sleep without proper covering and spent the rest of the night rewriting lost arguments from my past, altering history so that I emerged victorious.”
Patrick deWitt, The Sisters Brothers

Alan Bennett
“The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours”
Alan Bennett, The History Boys

“Only the victors have stories to tell. We, the vanquished, were all cowards and weaklings by then, whose memories, fears, and enthusiasms should not be remembered.”
Guy Sajer, The Forgotten Soldier
