The Patternist series is heating up! The concept of the pattern is a great example of Butler's emphasis on distinct and conflictual personalities being forced to find collective solutions to various problems. The exploration of Doro's abandoned and hellish latents is terrifying. The way that Butler's narrative moves generationally with her characters is on display as well (Emma/Anyanwu) being almost entirely absent. Not sure if this series can rival the Xenogenesis books yet, but I'm only halfway through.
