Ok, so the cover is terrible! What were the publishers thinking!? Fortunately, as I had read in a number of reviews, the book is better than the cover suggests and not in the least bit sleazy. It's mostly about power struggles within a complex underworld full of the usual suspects: werewolves, shape shifters, vampires and the like.

I thought it was ok. There was quite a bit of exposition though. Whenever the author digressed into explanations of her world and the backgrounds of all her different characters it lost my interest and I was tempted to skim read. I loved Mercedes character and just wanted to follow more of her story. I didn't care too much about the politics of the underworld, which really was what the book predominantly focussed on.

That all sounds a bit harsh though, when actually the good stuff kept me flying through it. Better than Shiver and Twilight in terms of the development of the werewolves' pack mentality etc (not in terms of story). This is good. Celtic mythology alive in a contemporary setting. Full of tricksy faeries, four leaf clovers, freckled redheads and Irish accents. Gotta love it!

I didn't entirely understand where Dee's sudden all-powerfulness came from (& why), but it didn't bother me too much because I was having fun reading about it.
