Rustam's favorite quotes

1655
"Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life. "
Mark Twain

15151
"Sometimes I feel discriminated against, but it doesn’t make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It’s beyond me."
Zora Neale Hurston

1655
"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
Mark Twain

""I read," I say. "I study and read. I bet I've read everything you read. Don't think I haven't. I consume libraries. I wear out spines and ROM-drives. I do things like get in a taxi and say, "The library, and step on it." My instincts concerning syntax and mechanics are better than your own, I can tell, with all due respect. But it transcends the mechanics. I'm not a machine. I feel and believe. I have opinions. Some of them are interesting. I could, if you'd let me, talk and talk."
David Foster Wallace

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H.L. Mencken

26185 Well, it's funny you should mention my comments in MiniAm. Last night, in my sullenness, I broke decorum and was partially responsible for getting a thread killed ("due to abuse") so I think I might lay low in that group for a while.

26185 I 'm sorry I make you feel unwelcome. I'm just not a good people person. I'm naturally sullen and withdrawn. Believe me, I would rather talk to you than read. Well, except for maybe when I was reading Bleak House. I just wanted to finish that thing.

As for my dog liking you, that doesn't make you special. As long as you have the potential to pet him or give him food, he'll like you.
