I'm planning on re-reading her sister's books (it's been since HS), so I wanted to read this first. Anne is sometimes considered the lesser Bronte, but I think that's baloney. It's just that people don't know her work as well. I read that one of her sisters tried to censor her works after her death. I also read that this book is kind of like a response to her sister's works- more rooted in the reality of what an abusive a-hole the leading men are in those victorian novels. Anne was pretty religious, and that comes out as feminism in this book. I don't really want to spoil the novel for anyone by saying more about it.
